Behold:

#10:Dati (Sam Concepcion)

Dati (Sam Concepcion)

With its YouTube official video reaching almost 11 million views, it’s no surprise this beautiful song concoction by Sam Concepcion in collaboration with Tippy Dos Santos and Quest has gone viral.

Now, don’t get all the names all mixed up. That beautiful lady in the video is Tippy Dos, though her name sounds like the rapper Tipsy D and would come out as leaning towards the “astig” (no offence, Ma). You’ll be amazed at the lady’s name which in full would be: Stephanie Denise “Tippy” Esquivias Dos Santos. Wow! And Sam emerged into the national consciousness as Boy Bawangin the ABS-CBN fantaseryeSuper Inggo. Of course, Sam is an ABS-CBN talent from the moment he emerged as the winner from the first Big Division of Little Big Star way back 2006. He’s definitely charting his way up to the ladder of success with this upbeat song which has caught most every Juan’s heart.

#9:Wrecking Ball (Miley Cyrus)

Wrecking Ball (Miley Cyrus)

That twerky Miley certainly snagged a lot of attention – Pinoy and worldwide – in this song. I am not much of a Miley fan as my heart goes to pretty brunette Rihanna or curvaceous Katy Perry, still it’s hard not to be captivated by the intense emotion in this song.

Now, if you want to do a little bit of a comparison and perhaps to give you some idea about things, official video for this Cyrus gal is pouring in like heavy rain it has been viewed over 700 million times. Yes, that would put a lot of Pinoy superstars in a precarious position. Well, putting things into perspective this song already was poised to win big in the box-office as explosive as the video is. Not bad act for the former goody-goody Hannah Montana.

#8:Bang Bang (Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj)

Bang Bang (Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj)

Don’t take this song lightly, though its title may sound a bit like child’s play to you. There is a lot of credit given to this song as the act has been nominated in the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Fact is when this collaboration of the super-trio of Jessie J., Ariana Grande and rapper Nicki Minaj debuted in the UK, it immediately topped that side of Europe.

As for the concept, it was fast-talking big-booty Minaj that co-wrote the song along with a handful of lesser known artists (e.g., SavanKotecha). And though relatively newly-released, the song has already over 200 million views on YouTube. Not bad, really!

#7:Counting Stars (OneRepublic)

Counting Stars (OneRepublic)

This song may have been released in 2013 but its fame spilled over 2014. And its YouTube official video via VEVO is telling, over 600 million views. Though I, for one, is not really familiar of the song. Must have slipped through my fingers. Or to be precise, my ears.

The songs speaks of waiting of course and all those wonderful things that come out of it. Very familiar, right?

#6:Roar (Katy Perry)

Roar (Katy Perry)

My personal favorite, and I am rooting for this song, I mean the singer, I mean the song. Ahaha.

Well, for starters, everyone would agree this song speaks volumes for itself. Millions the world over has seen the strength in this song. No wonder it has become the anthem for many sales people and sales rallies. Listen to it and you’ll hear the inner channeling of the song. Of course, it helped a lot that this beauteous diva sang it. Never thought I’d be lost in this one’s eyes.

#5:All of Me (John Legend)

All of Me (John Legend)

For one love song to have been created for his one true love, the song just speaks of the wonders of love like a waterfall flowing endlessly with water. Pure abandon. And you can’t fault John Legend for such beautiful lyrics that has found a soft spot in Pinoy’s hearts.

#4:Royals (Lorde)

Royals (Lorde)

Beautiful New Zealander Lorde flesh out these lyrics in her momentous song telling of love and devotion set in the tone of royalty. It may have debuted way back in 2012 but it certainly found favor in 2014 in many a-Pinoy’s heart.

#3:Let it Go (Frozen theme song)

Let it Go (Frozen theme song)

Who would not know this song?Though made for the super-blockbuster animated feature film Frozen, the song rose to national attention in 2014 with children belting it out in the streets it has become an obsession of some sorts. Sung by singer IdinaMenzel in her vocal role as Queen Isa, the beautifully-crafted song is the product of collaboration between husband and wife Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez. What is most astounding is Robert Lopez is not only award-winning as he has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony, he is also half-Filipino as he is born of a Filipino father. Cool!

#2:Blank Space (Taylor Swift)

Blank Space (Taylor Swift)

Our beautiful Taylor dame definitely painted a detailed picture of love and loss in this song. And where her Blank Space was, there love resided, placing a scar when it left, waiting for time to heal it. The song sure made a lot of noise online, making it the 2nd topmost requested song for the year that was.

#1:Rude (Magic!)

Rude (Magic!)

And the most requested song in Las Islas Filipinas via search engine Google’s watch in 2014 goes to the song that made people laugh hard, Rude. Reminiscent of another one-word titled emotion-based song Happy, this one instead pictured the negative energy of being turned down. At least not by his lover, but by his lover’s father.
