Top 10 Tips On Starting With Makeup For Beginners

We all want to look good and fresh all the time but living under the Philippine weather makes it seem impossible. To look presentable for work, family gatherings, batch reunions or simply at home is not only a form of self-representation but is also a reflection of one’s confidence, self-respect, and responsibility.

In the Philippines, it is either hot or humid and nothing much in between. However, the sweaty faces we get 5 minutes after putting on our primer has not stopped us from wanting to experiment with beauty.

If you are new to make-up, here are some basic tips for you as a beginner to learn:

Determine your skin type

Skin type means that your skin is either oily, dry or a combination of both. Determine yours so that you would know which products are appropriate to apply on your skin.

Prioritize skincare

Right, we are talking about make-up and not skincare but come to think of it. What is the whole purpose of you putting on makeup? Is it because you want to accentuate your assets or is it to hide from reality? If your idea or using makeup is to put on as a mask to conceal your natural beauty, take a break.

Focus on hydration, moisturization, and exfoliation. Get yourself some facial masks, creams, and other skincare products that would be beneficial to the type of skin you have.

Groom your eyebrows

To make your makeup routine a lot easier, get your brows threaded at the salon. This way, your brows will be well shaped before you put on your eyebrow makeup. This would also decrease the time you need to spend in front of the mirror.

Use a light BB Cream

BB Creams are creams that give coverage without being too heavy on the skin. Instead of using foundation every day, use a BB Cream instead. BB Creams are Beaty Balms which means they give so many benefits to the skin while making you look flawless all day. Get the right shade by testing the product on your jaw first. If it matches the tone of your neck and jaw area, buy it.

Get a translucent powder

A popular mistake made by many is using a colored powder to set their foundation or BB Cream but not getting the right shade. Some are too dark while others are too white. Translucent is colorless. It gets the job done without being oddly colored.

Stock on lip and cheek tints

Lip and cheek tints are a go-to if you are always on the go, or when you know that you will be sweating a lot during the day. Most tints never fade until you wash them off. This is a good investment! Pick a natural shade such as red because it is universal and most likely flattering to all skin tones.

Do not contour

Contouring will make you look older and if not done properly, can make you look dirty. If you are a beginner, avoid wearing contour when you’re out. Focus on highlighting the highest points of your face instead! Use a highlighter on your forehead, nose bridge, cheekbones and cupid’s bow.

Buy MLBB lipstick shades

Makeup newbies are mostly still shy to wear bold lip colors. But if you want to start wearing makeup, try using MLBB (My Lips But Better) shades. These are shades that are similar to your natural lip color.

Use lipsticks as blush and eyeshadow

For a monochrome look, you can use your MLBB lipsticks to color your cheeks and lids. It is a nice way to flaunt those areas in a subtle way. Just use a little amount.

Always bring concealer

You can lose everything else, but not your concealer. Concealers help hide your unwanted blemishes, acne scars, and dark undereye circles. As your makeup fades during the day, it would be nice that you are able to touch up anytime you want.
