Not so Fun Facts: Top 10 Driver Violations

Records of road accidents around the country has escalated to 120% last 2018 according to Sunstar. In 2017, 296,448 motorists were apprehended by the Land Transportation Office for violating traffic rules which resulted to more of these accidents. This figure even jumped to as big as 329, 538 in the partial count of the LTO last 2018. And that’s only for motorists, how much more if we add all the rest of vehicles around the country!

If you don’t want to be included on the current data of the LTO, or worse face untoward accidents, better yet find out what caused these incidents. On the data gathered, it was found out that “human error” is identified as the top cause of these road accidents. Human error comes in different forms; to get to know more about these, here’s a quick list of the common violations committed by drivers according to LTO’s 2018 semi-annual report:

  1. Failure to wear the prescribed seatbelt– 63,215 incidents

This violation includes allowing 6 years old children to sit in front of the passenger seat.

  1. Failure to wear the standard protective motorcycle helmet– 48,734 incidents

  1. Failure to carry driver’s Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration – 25,087 incidents

  1. Driving without a driver’s license/ Conductor’s Permit– 23,458 incidents

This would include an expired, revoked, suspended, inappropriate driver’s license, fake driver’s license, and student driving without being accompanied by a duly licensed driver.

  1. Unregistered/invalid motor vehicle registration– 16,339 incidents

  1. Reckless driving (first, second, and third offense) 13,836 incidents

  1. Obstruction– 13,629 incidents

  1. No spare tire 5,290 incidents

  1. Axle overloading– 4,881 incidents

  1. Student driver driving without an accompanying licensed driver– 4,293 incidents

Keep in mind that committing these violations does not only exhaust your pockets but as well as tarnish driving records. Avoid becoming a cause of accidents and headache to other people. Follow the rules. Save lives. Including yours.
