The year 2019 is ending, with many of us preparing for media noche to be shared with family and friends as well as getting those polka dotted items out of the closet to bring in good luck and prosperity. On a national level, 2019 was a year of multiple projects going full blast, aligning to the current government’s drive: Build, Build, Build. And several infrastructure projects are in progress across the archipelago, providing employment to many of the citizens. To welcome the new year 2020, here are the projects that are aimed for completion before 2020 ends.
The project was started on the 3rd of September 2016, that involved the construction, operation and maintenance of an eight-kilometer, four-level elevated expressway over the Philippine National Railway (PNR). This connector road will run from C3 Road in Caloocan through Manila, crossing Espana towards Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa connection to Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3. With a budget of PHP 23.30B funded from a public-private partnership, this is expected to be completed by 30th September 2020.
- Bonifacio Global City to Ortigas Road Link Project, Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge and Viaduct (Phase 1 & 2-A)
The construction of a four-lane bridge across Pasig River and a four-lane viaduct structure traversing Lawton Avenue toward the Bonifacio Global City entrance are aimed to decongest the traffic along EDSA, giving motorists a new route especially those who are working in the BGC area. The project started on 3rd April 2017 with an estimated budget of PHP 4.01B and is expected to be completed by 31st March 2020.
Dubbed as Unified Grand Central Station, is a 13,700 square-meter common station that connects three railway lines: MRT Lines 3 and 7, LRT Line 1 and the planned Metro Manila Subway, addressing ease in passenger transfer and interconnectivity. The whole project has a budget of PHP 2.8B and as of writing, Area A construction, where the platform and the concourse for the LRT1 and MRT3 will be located, is already at 96% completion, aimed to be completed by October 2020.
- Metro Cebu Expressway (Cebu Circumferential Road)
The project, aims to address the demand for an alternate route from North to South, is a 73.7 kilometer, six-lane expressway that will comprise of 3 segments: Minglanilla-Talisay boundary to Mandaue City-Consolacion boundary (26.8 km), Mandaue City-Consolacion boundary to Danao City (29.799 km) and Naga City to Minglanilla-Talisay boundary (17.17 km). The whole stretch is estimated to cut travel time from 4 hours to about an hour, if coming from Naga going to Danao using via the Circumferential road. This whole stretch is expected to be completed by 2022 but from the looks of it, segment 1 is already underway and may be completed within 2020.
The renovation project aims to innovate the convergence area for meeters and greeters into an open-village like atmosphere, thus dubbed as the Airport Village. This is part of the PHP 17B investment of GMCAC to improve the services and facilities of both MCIA Terminals 1 and 2. Its expected completion is by 2020 with Gates 3-8 for renovation by the first quarter.
There are still many projects that are lined up for 2020 but nevertheless, we are still thankful that despite the negative media coverage, these projects continue to progress with the end in mind and that is to provide comfort and accessibility to all people from different walks of life.
