After three years, Palawan has finally regained its title as the “Best Island in the World” in a survey conducted by the international travel magazine, Travel + Leisure. It can be recalled that the archipelagic province has held the same title in 2013, 2016, and 2017. The world famous island was able to garner an unbeatable score of 94.83 – topping the roster of Top 25 Best Islands in the World.

About Travel + Leisure Best Island in the World Survey

The survey for the World’s Best Awards was closed last March 2 of this year, just before the implementation of the widespread stay-at-home orders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the survey represents the readers’ experiences before the lockdowns. Nonetheless, the publication pushed for the result revelation so as to inspire people on their upcoming trips – when this pandemic subsides.

Palawan as the ‘Best Island in the World’

While many thinks of turquoise water, fine-sand beaches, and palm trees when we talk about islands, this year’s roster is far more diverse that this stereotyped concept of islands. Take Palawan for example. While the island province has been known for its palm-edged beaches, travelers voted for this island because of its mountains, World War II wrecks, old-growth rainforests, and subterranean river.
