After breaking the record in 2019 by becoming one of the 100 Best Universities in Asia, the University of the Philippines now jumps from the 95th to the 65th spot this year. This is according the latest university ranking released by the Time Higher Education (THE).
It can be recalled that UP has been in the 156th spot in 2018 and 201st to 250th spot in 2017. Right now, it is considered as the fifth highest ranking university from the Southeast Asian region. It tied with Cankaya University in Turkey in the 65th place – just above the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in India and below the South China University of Technology in China.
Aside from the University of the Philippines, De La Salle University – which debuted in the list last year – remained in the list of Top 500 universities but has dropped from the 251st to 300th spot down to the 301st to 350th.

This ranking is based on the 13 Performance Indicators used by the THE World University Rankings – but were recalibrated to reflect the attributes of the universities in Asia. Indicators include: Teaching (the learning environment) 25%, Research (volume, income, and reputation) 30%, Citations (30%), International Outlook (Staff, Students, Research) 7.5%, Industry Income (Knowledge Transfer) 7.5%.
