The Legal Education Board has recently released the Top 10 Performing Schools in the 2019 Bar Examination based on the overall performance of examinees. The University of the Philippines ranked first with 82.6% passing rate while two law schools from Cebu also made it to the list landing on the fifth and sixth spots.

This report is based on the official results of the Bar Examination, which was issued by the Bar Confidant, the Supreme Court. The Top 10 List is based on the average number of examinees per school in the last four bar examinations – which is 63 examinees. A minimum threshold of 11 examinees was set for ranking purposes to promote equality in statistical comparisons between differently contextualized institutions. This means that only the schools with eleven and above number of examinees were included in the rank.

Law Schools adapting the New Normal

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, law schools are now prompted to adjust its methods and programs in the delivery of instruction. According to the Dean of the University of Cebu School of Law, they are now revisiting and revising their academic curriculum and policies. They are as well setting more precise goals and directions. The faculty now are trained with new teaching strategies and techniques that would best cater and fit the ‘new normal’.

The class size now has also been reduced to enhance the quality of education. While the other school services and support units were adjusted as well to meet the unique requirements of legal education. And to continue producing globally competitive graduates, some law schools right now are also forging partnerships with prominent foreign law schools and local and international organizations.
