Filipino inventor, Kyxz Mendiola, set another milestone by breaking the existing Guinness World Record for the farthest flight undertaken on a hoverboard last July 10, 2021, in Subic Bay, Zambales. The flying electric car inventor set a new world record by traveling 2,894 meters surpassing the previous record of Frenchman Franky Zapata.
About the Electric Manned Aerial Vehicle
Putting to reality those dreams of human flights (the way we see them on sci-fi movies), Mendiola developed the country’s first-ever flying e-car known as the Electric Manned Aerial Vehicle. He utilized the Star 8 Green Technology Corporation’s electric hoverboard (better known as e-hoverboard). On record, he was able to cover a total flight time of 7 minutes and 22 seconds.
By doing so, Mendiola broke the farthest hoverboard flight set by the French watercraft pilot and inventor of the Flyboard Air, Franky Zapata, who was able to travel 2,252 meters with his jet-powered hoverboard (Sausset-les-Pins) back in 2016.
Behind Kyxz Mendiola’s e-Hoverboard
Mendiola’s father was so ecstatic upon seeing the achievement of his son’s flight. He shared how his drone and flying car enthusiast son put all his efforts for seven years in order to build his hoverboard. He admitted that he was quite uncertain how would such invention accommodate human flights but when his son began to put together the aluminum – and all the other parts of the hoverboard – the only thing that he was able to say was: totohananan na ‘to!
It can be recalled that on September 23, 2018, Mendiola went viral with his EMAV 8 demonstration at the Star 8 grounds in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. This former model has the capacity to carry up to 60 kilograms of load with a flight time of 15 minutes.
With more and more countries delving into research and innovations on flying cars, a future like the ones we see in movies may possibly come into reality. Are we ready for this?
