Just like many other curious minds around the world, Filipinos are persistent in coming up with answers and solutions to the pressing questions and problems that this country and the world is facing. With much passion and determination, these pursuits came to fruition when this year, eight Filipino scientists made it to “Asia Scientist 100” – an annual recognition by Asian Magazine’s which aims to acknowledge and honor outstanding scientists, academicians, innovators, and business leaders from the Asia-Pacific region.
Among the 100 awardees from different countries in the region, Dr. Rosalinda C. Torresof Technology Development Institute who was cited because of her research on the larvicidal ability the medicinal plants in the Philippines and Dr. Marissa A. Paglicawan of Technology Development Institutewas included in the list because of her research which focused on turning Manila hemp or abaca into an engineering material. Together with them wereArtemio Salazar of UP Los Baños, RodySy of UP Manila, Gay Jane Perez and CharissaMarcaidaFerrera of UP Diliman, Elmer Dadios of De La Salle University, and Ricardo Balog of University of Santo Tomas who made exemplary contribution to the fields of Chemistry, Material Science, Agriculture, Biomedical Science, Environmental Sciences and Geology, Life Sciences, and Engineering.
According to the magazine’s editor-in-chief, this yearly Singapore-based publication aims to inspire scientists and researches of various fields to pursue passion for scientific knowledge in order to alleviate and impact people’s lives.
