LOOK: University of the Philippines ranks 30 spots higher from last year in Asia University Ranking

In the recent rankings released by Times Higher Education Asia University Ranking for 2020, the University of the Philippines climbs to the 65th place – which is 30 spots higher than it’s ranking in the previous year. It can be recalled that out of the 489 universities, UP ranked 95th in 2019.

This announcement was done by the Times Higher Education through their Virtual THE Live Asia webinar last June 3, 2020. The University of the Philippines has been consistently part of ranking since 2017 where it belonged to the 201st to 250th ranking group. In 2018, it reached the 156th position before entering the top 100 in 2019.

Criteria for Times Asia Education University Ranking

Universities taking part of the Asia University Rankings 2020 has been evaluated using the same 13 performance indicators used for Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This means, all universities are judged across all their core mission which include teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

On the data analytics presented by Scopus, the University of the Philippines was able to improve its citation (86.9 points) and industry income (39.4 points) which resulted to the surge of their ranking. Sadly, De La Salle University slides back to the 310-350 bracket from its 251-300 range in 2019.

Two universities from China dominated the Asian ranking for this year – bagging the first and second spot over the 500 universities from 30 countries that comprised the list for this year. Here are the top ten universities in Asia according to Times Higher Education.
